Kechmara

Last night I went to dinner at a cool restaurant in the nouvelle ville (new city) called Kechmara (www.Kechmara.com I didn't want to feel like a tourist so no Ipics sorry)
Expansive white walls and marble floor stretched over 3 levels.
A DJ spun classic French lounge tracks in front a wall of pale taupe velvet drapes, from high ceiling to cold white floor.
A dozen white Verner Panton 1960's, vintage chairs slunk along the side of long tables, while smaller white Saarinen tulip tables and chairs dotted the remaining space (they knew what they were doing when they decked this place out). It had a very international feel, 20th century modern.
I could have easily been in New York, infact I thought I was after my tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad.

Marrakech has a split personality, like most places in Morocco.
The ancient walled medina houses a millennia of fabulous souks and alleyways lined with artisans while outside is a bright (albeit dusty) modern city that could be anywhere in Europe.
The Moroccan people mirror this division: The older generation and the young split between Islamic traditions and drinks with your girlfriends on thursday night at Kechmara.
